Behind the imposing façade of London’s Paupers Hospital something dark and evil has returned. In the dim corridors and lonely wards, people are dying…of fright!
Deposited in the London of the 1950’s by a seemingly malfunctioning TARDIS, the Doctor and Monica are soon on the trail of a malevolent presence, a presence which threatens the very fabric of the space/time continuum and the people of Earth.
What is the link between the Paupers Hospital of the 1950’s and the Paupers of the 1700’s? How did the foul alchemist Samuel Hewer escape his own murder? And will the Doctor’s oldest friend desert him in the maelstrom of real space, occult force and raw time?
