I'm surprised it took nine of the new audio adventures for it to arrive, but eventually, it's here. The meeting of the Sixth Doctor and Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.
The Lanyon Moor Archaeological Institute. Not exactly the sort of place you would expect to find the former head of an ultra secret paramilitary organisation.
But Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart is on an undercover mission, investigating the strange happenings in the area. So when his old friend the Doctor shows up, even if it is in a new body, the old soldier knows things are looking up.
Can the Doctor solve the age-old mystery of the Moor? What of the sinister Sir Archibald Flint, Lord of Pengriffin Manor? And can the Brigadier help prevent an ancient evil that could destroy the world?
This is quite a good tale, though not one of the top drawer adventures so far. Colin Baker and Nick Courtney have obvious fun with their 'meeting' and they bounce off each other very well. But at times within the play it seems that there is just too much else going on.
Also, this is Maggie Stables second play as new companion Evelyn Smythe. She makes an even bigger impact this time around, holding her own in the subplot without needing the Doctor to fall back on.
James Bolam, as the guest villain Sir Archibald Flint, is another who obviously enjoys himself during the production and turns in an excellent performance for it. Also worthy of note is Star Wars voice artist Toby Longworth as the academic Professor Morgan.
All in all, a bit of a curates egg. It's very good in parts, but others, like the ending, let the side down a bit. But an enjoyable tale for all it's faults.
