FLIP-FLOP

Cover by Clayton Hickman"I'm not inclined to use rude words, Doctor..."

When a spacecraft arrives in orbit of the planet Puxatornee on Christmas Eve 3060, it changes the future of the human colony forever.

Or does it? Exactly thirty years later, a bold experiment to change the past is ready to be put to the test. Just as the Doctor and Mel arrive to complicate matters.

Or do they? Maybe the Doctor and Mel arrive after events have been changed. And have they been changed for the better? Who can tell? In the end, it's all rather confusing!

Well, I'm not sure about the Flip, but I would certainly agree with the Flop! This experimental story telling style ends up something of a mess, with nothing really resolved by the end of either of the two discs.

Yes, it's that story, the one that can be played in any order, either disc first. That's because nothing actually happens within the story. The Doctor and Mel arrive, there is a lot of running around, then they leave. Twice. That's it. No, really that's all there is to the story!

Sylvester and Bonnie try hard, there is no doubt about that. But it isn't enough really. When the play just goes through the motions, there is little the leads can do to help.

As the guest cast play so many different roles, or at least variations on the same roles, nobody rises above the material to stamp a mark on the tale. It is worth noting that former stage Doctor Trevor Martin plays Professor Capra, but that is all there is to say on that matter.

Even author Jonathan Morris, who is capable of writing much better fiction, has commented that the play lacks resolution and that it isn't his best piece of work. As Brigadier Bambera might have said, "No shame there, Sherlock!"

Did I mention this is something of a Flop? Seems this review has gone round in a big circle. Quite appropriate really!
